Maintaining a large source base is continuous work. Publications appear and disappear, sites move to new domains, publishing systems change, and access conditions shift. Why it matters
For compliance and adverse media applications, a source that exists in a database but is no longer being collected provides no coverage. Irrelevant or low-quality sources create false positives; missing regional and local-language publications leave important stories unseen.
The same applies to media monitoring platforms. What users ultimately see depends on what is being collected underneath.
This is why the source maintenance described above applies to all three delivery methods equally. The delivery mechanism changes; the underlying coverage does not.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Opoint decide which sources to include?
Sources go through a credibility assessment before inclusion. Analysts look at what the publication produces, how regularly it publishes, who is behind it, and whether it provides meaningful editorial content. Sites that mainly aggregate, duplicate, or automatically generate content without editorial value may be excluded. The same principles apply regardless of language or country.
Does language coverage include machine-translated content?
No. Articles are indexed in the language in which they were published. Translation can be provided separately, but translated content does not count toward language coverage figures.
What is the difference between SafeFeed and StoredSearch?
SafeFeed delivers the news stream and lets you filter it. StoredSearch lets Opoint do the searching first and delivers only matching articles. SafeFeed suits full-volume ingestion; StoredSearch suits defined monitoring use cases where processing the full feed is unnecessary.
Can I query articles from a specific date range?
Yes. The Search API supports queries across defined time windows. StoredSearch can also retrieve matching articles from a lookback period when a search is first registered, up to the configured limit, before continuing with newly discovered articles.
How does deduplication work?
The equalgroup field groups articles covering the same underlying story across multiple outlets — syndicated wire copy, republished press releases, and stories picked up by multiple publications. Articles sharing an equalgroup value are versions of the same story. You can surface one notification per story with a source count, rather than a separate article for each outlet that published it.
Can I request sources that are not currently covered?
Yes. Contact your Opoint account manager with the sources you need. The analyst team reviews the source and adds it when appropriate. The time required depends on the source and the work needed to establish reliable coverage.
